Our Campaign

Building a Kinder Future: The Campaign for AnimalKind is a necessary effort to create a space capable of handling the work we do and the lives we touch.  Our current home, a beautiful and iconic landmark of sorts on Warren Street, has served us well.  We treasure the neighbors who stop in, the curious sidewalk visitors who peer through our big windows at cats sunbathing in the afternoon light, the volunteers who drop in to socialize with kittens, and the community members who pick up essential food pantry items to care for their pets. This building holds meaning, but more importantly, our memories.

Our current home was never designed to meet the scale and complexity of our work today.  Over time, we have adapted to “make do”, but our building can no longer sustain the mission we pursue.  To continue delivering high-quality care and help more animals and people, we must invest in a purpose-built facility designed for today’s best practices in veterinary care, sheltering, and public health.

The new space will be thoughtfully designed to provide a larger, modernized clinical space that will accommodate current and future growth in service needs. This translates to more spay/neuter surgeries, an increase in vaccine clinics, and a greater availability of wellness services. The new space will also be constructed to the American Veterinary Medical Association and the upcoming NYS Shelter Standards Act requirements, which aim to reduce stress, mitigate the spread of disease, and improve working conditions for staff and volunteers.

Our future facility will lead to job creation, and will also allow AnimalKind to strengthen our ability to respond to emergencies.  It will give consistent access to our emergency boarding service, which accommodates animals when their guardians are hospitalized, displaced, or face a family crisis.

Most important to AnimalKind is the creation of a space that:

  • is welcoming to the community,
  • provides more visibility to our organization,
  • enhances the adoption experience, and
  • expands our ability to help more cats find their forever homes.

Our first chapter has been filled with amazing accomplishments, stories, and memories, but our next chapter will allow us to build on the promise we give to every rescue: a kinder future awaits you.
